Built by founders. For founders.
Moto Legal exists because the founders who came before you needed lawyers who understood the decisions that create legal risk — not just the legal risk itself.
Why we exist
There's a gap in the legal market.
On one side: BigLaw firms with crypto practice groups and AI task forces, charging rates that make sense for banks and not for builders. On the other side: compliance shops that handle AFSL applications competently but have never thought about token economics, AI governance, or what a DAO actually needs to look like from a legal standpoint.
Between those two extremes, the founders building the most interesting companies in the world were getting inadequate advice from people who didn't understand what they were building.
Moto Legal was founded to close that gap. We are lawyers who built things first. We understand blockchain because we worked in it. We understand AI governance because we've thought about AI systems as builders. We understand fundraising because we've been on both sides of the term sheet.
Embedded, not transactional.
We work best as an extension of your team, not as outside counsel you call in emergencies. The lawyers who understand your business, your cap table, your regulatory history, and your product roadmap give you fundamentally better advice than the ones who have to be re-briefed every engagement.
Fast, actionable, opinionated.
The legal advice that wastes a founder's time says "it depends" without explaining what it depends on, and why, and what to do about it. We give you our actual view. Clear, direct, actionable. We'll tell you when the risk is real and when it's hypothetical.
Transparent.
No billable-hour surprises. Fixed-fee engagements where possible, clear retainer structures for ongoing relationships, and billing you can understand without a law degree. Our goal is for you to always know what you're spending before you spend it.
Moto Legal Australia and Moto Legal Ltd (UAE)
🇦🇺 Moto Legal Australia
Operated through Celia Legal Pty Ltd, trading as Moto Legal. Our Australian entity is a fully regulated legal practice under Professional Standards Legislation, based in Surry Hills, Sydney. We advise on Australian financial services law, ASIC regulatory matters, AUSTRAC compliance for digital asset businesses, corporate structuring under Australian law, and all areas of Australian commercial law relevant to emerging tech companies.
We are deeply familiar with the Australian crypto and AI regulatory landscape — the DASA framework, DCE registration with AUSTRAC, ASIC's evolving approach to crypto assets, and Australia's approach to AI governance.
🇦🇪 Moto Legal Ltd (UAE)
Our UAE entity operates across the Abu Dhabi Global Market (ADGM) and Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC) ecosystems — the two primary regulatory hubs for technology businesses and digital assets in the Middle East.
For founders building businesses that span Australia and the UAE, or who are structuring through UAE jurisdictions, our two entities work as one seamless team. No handoffs. No gaps. No "you'll need to engage a separate firm for that."
Why this matters for you
The UAE has emerged as one of the world's most progressive regulatory environments for digital assets, fintech, and AI companies. ADGM and DIFC offer licensing frameworks, regulatory certainty, and jurisdictional advantages that many Australian founders are increasingly exploring. Having legal counsel that understands both markets — and operates in both — is a meaningful advantage.
Global, with roots.
We have deep knowledge of Australian and UAE regulatory frameworks, and we work with trusted partner firms across Singapore, the United Kingdom, the United States, and the European Union.
When your legal question crosses borders — and for most emerging tech companies it does — we coordinate the multi-jurisdictional picture and work with the right local experts, so you get one coherent answer rather than a patchwork of conflicting opinions.
